dotSwiss: Switzerland Hosts New gTLDs event in Berne 28.11.2011

 The new gTLDs events schedule is not over yet. The Swiss Registry Switch will host a new gTLD event on 28th November, 2011. Event is open to all parties considering to apply and all those interested in the future of  the internet.

Kongress + Kursaal Bern AG, Kornhausstrasse 3, 3000 Bern, Switzerland

On Monday 28 November 2011, the following organisations will jointly host an event in Bern, Switzerland titled 'New gTLDs 2012':
  • OFCOM - Federal Office of Communications
  • EURALO - European Regional At-Large Organisation
  • SWITCH - Serving Swiss Universities
The agenda will be as follows:
  • An introduction to the New gTLDs
  • Are the New gTLDs an opportunity for Swiss businesses?
  • What opportunities and risks do the New gTLDs represent for public and non-commercial interests?
  • Are the New gTLDs a risk for Swiss businesses?
Although the speaker programme has yet to be confirmed, NetNames' Stephane Van Gelder will be speaking about (1) why the New gTLDs are necessary and (2) how the New gTLD process will work and the timelines involved.

Stephane is an expert on the New gTLDs as he was elected Vice Chair of the GNSO in 2009 and now serves as Chair of the Generic Names Supporting Organisation (GNSO), ICANN’s policy making body for generic Top Level Domains such as .com.
